Forum attendants share perspectives on the forum topic. Power & Pride forums are designed to bring the disability community together to discuss topics of broad-based interest. They provide a setting for sharing ideas on how to build the capacity for leadership within the disability community and how to mobilize the community to be active participants in the electoral process. This is critical for our community because we so often stay segmented in sub communities, making it difficult for us to develop strong and sustained participation in the electoral process.

Forums are held in Washington, DC. The first forum took place in February 2010 and it addressed Power & Pride’s presidential personnel project and federal hiring. The event was sold-out with nearly 100 participants and a speaker panel consisting of Mark Perriello, Director of Priority Placement in White House Presidential Personnel,
Christine Griffin, Deputy Director of the Office of Personnel Management, and former Power & Pride Chairman Tony Coelho.

We will launch our new breakfast forum series in September of 2011 with a forum entitled “Media & Disability” featuring guest speaker Joseph Shapiro.

Forum guests engage in discussion with one another after the speaker panel.
